This system makes for a game that does not need an easier difficulty, as the game design allows for the player to learn how to play the game and get better at doing so as they play. Then later on the player is forced to fight this new enemy in an environment that incorporates other enemies and mechanics that have been seen before. The game introduces every new enemy in a controlled environment, which gives the player some time to learn and understand the new enemies. The fine tuned normal difficulty is definitely something that made me enjoy the game more. It just makes me think that people who choose the easier difficulty, either because they only want to experience the story or some other reason, might not enjoy the game as much and are missing out on a very lovely experience. I feel like there is no need for that unnecessary difficulty since the normal difficulty is already very good. However there is an easier difficulty setting for some reason. The difficulty on normal mode is very good and allows a bit of wiggle room for the player to make a couple of mistakes, and even a lot of mistakes depending on how many secret med packs you find. It really gives me a rush when I finally clear a room that I have died on many times. No matter how hard a singular room or enemy is, the player will be able to find a way that works and apply it using their skill.
This allows for the player to experiment different ways to kill enemies or dodge a turret. The player has infinite respawns so there is not too much penalty for dying. It's challenging but not super difficult. I think that Hyper Light Drifter on normal mode has the perfect amount of difficulty. DISCLAIMER: I have not played HLD on easy difficulty, so what I say is based on the speculation that easy difficulty is easier than normal difficulty.
